The Most Slimming Bathing Suit Styles, According to a Swim Designer

If there’s anyone who knows the ups and downs of swimsuit shopping, it’s the people designing them. Which is why when we found ourselves on the hunt for the most flattering bathing suit style, we turned to a professional to fill us in.

As the design director at Solid & Striped, Michelle Copelman has a handle on exactly what makes for flattering swimwear. Her number one rule? “It all comes down to what you feel comfortable in,” she said. “And, of course, knowing your body.”

Breaking it down further, while every woman should test the waters to find the suit that makes her feel best, Copelman does have a few tips for buying that flattering suit.

She advises, “I find one-pieces to be flattering on any body type, and I’m not talking about your grandmother’s one-piece. There are so many great options on the market.” She recommends looking for suits with flattering, flirty touches like an open back or a scooped neckline.

Another unexpected element to look for: stripes. “Vertical stripes might not be everyone’s first thought, but they are very flattering because they are elongating,” Copelman says. So with all that in mind, we rounded up a few of the strongest one-pieces out there right now. Read on for a look at über-flattering suits to try this summer.
